Adjustable Pneumatic Triple Offset Flange Butterfly Valve Specifications

Adjustable Pneumatic Triple Offset Flange Butterfly Valve

The adjustable pneumatic triple offset flange butterfly valve is a quarter-turn control and isolation valve designed for industrial pipelines that require remote operation, repeatable positioning and metal hard sealing at elevated temperature. Manufactured by Trekre & Fouten Valve at our Wuxi factory, this double-flange butterfly valve combines a triple-eccentric disc path with a pneumatic actuator capable of on-off switching or proportional modulation through a 4–20 mA control signal. The valve suits process lines where manual gearboxes cannot respond quickly enough and where resilient seated designs would not survive the operating temperature or abrasive media.

Compared with conventional concentric pneumatic butterfly valves, the triple offset geometry lifts the disc away from the seat before rotation, reducing friction and seat wear during each stroke. Compared with standard on-off pneumatic lug or wafer valves, the flanged body and adjustable actuator option allow stable pipeline anchoring on larger headers and fine flow trimming when the process requires throttling near a fixed setpoint rather than full open or full closed positions only.

Structure and sealing design. The valve body is supplied in a double-flange pattern for inline mounting between pipeline flanges with gaskets on both sides. The disc follows a triple-eccentric (triple offset) track: shaft offset, disc offset and angular seat cone combine so the disc contacts the seat along a conical metal ring at the final degrees of closure. Sealing is metal-to-metal hard seal, suitable for higher temperature steam, thermal oil and industrial gas lines where elastomer liners would harden or extrude. The adjustable pneumatic actuator can be configured for modulating duty with a positioner, enabling the disc to hold intermediate angles for flow regulation within the limits recommended for butterfly valve throttling service.

Nominal size and pressure class. Standard production covers nominal diameters from DN50 to DN1200 (NPS 2 to 48) in common increments. Pressure ratings typically include PN10, PN16, PN25, PN40 and PN63; ANSI Class 150 and Class 300 configurations are available when the purchase specification references API 609 or ASME B16.34 flange classes. Face-to-face dimensions follow EN 558 Series 13/14, API 609 short or long pattern, or project drawings when a non-standard flange drilling is required. Confirm the exact flange standard, drilling table and gasket type before ordering companion flanges and bolting.

Body, disc and seat materials. Valve body options include cast carbon steel WCB and WCC for general industrial service, stainless steel CF8 (304) and CF8M (316L) for corrosive or low-carbon weld requirements, and alloy selections for higher temperature headers when specified in the data sheet. The disc is machined from stainless or alloy material matched to the body class. The seat ring is finish-machined to the triple-offset cone angle with metal hard sealing surfaces. Stem and bearing components use stainless steel with anti-blowout retention suitable for horizontal or vertical stem orientation. Packing is selected for the operating temperature band—graphite-based combinations are common on high-temperature steam and thermal media lines.

Pneumatic actuation and control. The valve is operated by a pneumatic actuator mounted on the stem or ISO 5211 interface pad. Double-acting or spring-return actuator configurations are selected according to fail-safe requirements. On-off service uses solenoid valve pilot control with open and closed limit feedback when specified. Adjustable modulating service adds a pneumatic or electro-pneumatic positioner accepting 4–20 mA or 3–15 psi signals to position the disc at intermediate angles. Actuator sizing accounts for breakaway torque of metal seated triple-offset discs, which exceeds resilient seated valves of the same nominal size. Air supply should be clean, dry and filtered; supply pressure is typically 4–7 bar unless the actuator nameplate specifies otherwise. Limit switches and position transmitters can be integrated for remote indication in DCS or SCADA panels.

Applicable working conditions and industries. This adjustable pneumatic triple offset flange butterfly valve is specified on power plant auxiliary steam and condensate headers, petrochemical fractionation and transfer lines, metallurgical off-gas ducts, pulp and paper black liquor circuits, HVAC central plant isolation with remote control, water treatment chemical dosing headers, and general process piping where pneumatic speed and metal seat integrity are both required. High-temperature steam and hot gas duties within the body and seat material limits are typical applications. Modulating installations should be sized so that normal operating angle avoids sustained high-pressure-drop cavitation zones unless the valve is explicitly approved for that duty in the project specification.

Standards, inspection and delivery. Design and inspection commonly reference API 609 Category B, MSS SP-67, EN 593 or GB/T 12238 depending on the project region. Each valve undergoes shell pressure test and seat closure check before shipment. Material certificates, dimensional reports, actuator function tests and positioner calibration records can be included in the QA dossier when requested. Valves are cleaned, flange-faced protected and packed for export from Wuxi. Trekre & Fouten Valve application staff can review your medium composition, temperature profile, control signal type and flange specification to confirm body material, actuator class and positioner selection.

Selection notes. Specify flange standard and pressure class, body and disc material, operating temperature and cycle count, and whether the valve must modulate or operate on-off only. State fail-safe requirement—spring-return to open or closed—and control signal type for the positioner. For modulating duty, provide flow coefficient needs or allow Trekre & Fouten engineers to recommend acceptable travel range. Allow clearance for actuator height above the pipeline centerline and access for solenoid, filter-regulator and positioner maintenance. Install with the disc slightly open during pipeline flush to protect the seat from debris impact.

Installation and maintenance guidance. Mount the actuator upright or within the orientation limits stated on the actuator nameplate. Connect air supply through a filter-regulator and lubricator only when the actuator design requires it. Verify open and closed stops after installation and calibrate the positioner across the requested control range. Periodically exercise the valve through partial strokes to prevent deposit buildup on the metal seat cone. Inspect stem packing for leakage during thermal cycling; adjust gland bolts within the manufacturer torque band. If closure leakage increases after extended service, evaluate seat condition and actuator torque output before adjusting positioner gains.

Comparison with adjacent designs. Resilient seated pneumatic wafer butterfly valves remain the economical choice for clean water and HVAC isolation where temperature stays within elastomer limits. Manual worm gear triple-offset flanged valves suit local operation without air supply infrastructure. Electric actuators replace pneumatic drives when compressed air is unavailable or when precise digital control integration is preferred. The adjustable pneumatic triple offset flange configuration presented here fits remote modulating or fast on-off duty on flanged headers that demand metal hard sealing at temperature levels beyond resilient seat capability.

This adjustable pneumatic triple offset flange butterfly valve extends the Trekre & Fouten pneumatic butterfly valve range for process owners who need flanged metal seated isolation with proportional control from a standard instrument signal.
