Lined Valves
VALVE Categories
Lined valves use a polymer lining to separate the process medium from the metal valve body. Trekre’s current range includes PFA, FEP and PTFE lined ball, butterfly, plug and control valve configurations; final material and design selection must match the medium and operating conditions.

What Are Lined Valves?
Lined valves use an internal lining to help separate the process medium from the metal pressure boundary. They are commonly considered for corrosive media when the selected lining material, valve structure, and operating conditions are suitable for the application. A lining is not a universal chemical-resistance claim: compatibility must be checked for the actual medium, concentration, temperature, pressure, vacuum conditions, and service cycle.
Available Lining Materials
The current Trekre lined-valve range identifies PFA, FEP, and PTFE linings on product pages. These are different fluoropolymer materials and should not be treated as interchangeable. One currently listed butterfly valve is described as EPDM-rubber-lined; it is included below as a separate, non-fluoropolymer option.
| Material | Common designation | General characteristics | Selection notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| PFA | Perfluoroalkoxy | A distinct fluoropolymer lining option listed on current ball, butterfly, plug, and control valve products. | Confirm the exact valve construction and the process conditions against the applicable product data. |
| FEP | Fluorinated ethylene propylene | A distinct fluoropolymer lining option. FEP is not PTFE and is not PFA. | Assess chemical compatibility, temperature, pressure, permeation, and mechanical conditions for the specific service. |
| PTFE | Polytetrafluoroethylene | A distinct fluoropolymer lining option identified across the current lined product range. | Confirm the liner specification and the valve design rather than selecting by material name alone. |
| EPDM rubber | EPDM | A non-fluoropolymer lining named on one currently listed butterfly valve. | Review it separately from PFA, FEP, and PTFE options; compatibility depends on the actual service. |
Types of Lined Valves
The current category contains the following valve types. Follow each link for the specific construction and available configuration.
- Lined ball valves for isolation duties and manually or actuator-operated configurations.
- Lined butterfly valves in wafer, lug, double-flange, manual, worm-gear, pneumatic, and electric configurations across the current range.
- Lined plug valves, including jacketed and gear-operated product configurations.
- Lined control valves for applications where an actuator and controlled flow function are required.
How to Select a Lined Valve
Selection should start with the actual process information, not the lining name alone. Please provide the following where available:
- Medium and concentration
- Operating and design temperature
- Operating and design pressure, including vacuum conditions where relevant
- Particle content, solids, or abrasive risk
- Required valve function: isolation, throttling, or control
- Valve size, connection and flange standard
- Manual, pneumatic, electric, or other operating mode
- Preferred lining material and any compatibility requirements
Final selection should be confirmed against the actual medium and operating conditions, together with the selected valve design and product documentation.
Typical Applications
- Chemical processing and industrial corrosive service where the selected materials are compatible with the medium.
- Acid or alkali service only where material compatibility and process conditions permit.
- Water treatment and process systems where the valve design and liner are appropriate for the duty.
- Pharmaceutical or other process systems where the required design, cleanliness, and material requirements are confirmed.
PFA vs FEP vs PTFE
| Material | What it is | What must be confirmed before selection |
|---|---|---|
| PFA | Perfluoroalkoxy, a fluoropolymer distinct from FEP and PTFE. | Valve construction, chemical compatibility, temperature, pressure, vacuum or permeation conditions, and available product configuration. |
| FEP | Fluorinated ethylene propylene, a fluoropolymer distinct from PFA and PTFE. | The same service information, plus the liner specification used in the selected valve. |
| PTFE | Polytetrafluoroethylene, a fluoropolymer distinct from PFA and FEP. | The same service information, plus the specific lining and sealing design of the selected valve. |
Do not use a generic maximum temperature, exact chemical-resistance value, pressure limit, or vacuum limit for all lined valves. Those limits depend on the lining material, valve structure, sealing arrangement, and operating conditions; check the relevant product data before specification.
Quality and Testing
Trekre’s About page presents pressure-testing, PMI, material-verification, and inspection equipment. The applicable inspection scope, test method, and documentation should be agreed for the specific valve and order; this category page does not claim a universal test standard or certification for every configuration.

FAQ
What is a lined valve?
A lined valve has an internal lining that helps separate the process medium from the metal valve body. Whether it is suitable depends on the liner, valve design, and actual operating conditions.
What is the difference between PFA, FEP, and PTFE lining?
PFA, FEP, and PTFE are different fluoropolymer materials. They are not interchangeable names, so the selected liner should be confirmed against the process requirements and the product documentation.
When should a lined valve be used?
A lined valve may be considered for corrosive or chemically demanding service when a compatible lining and valve construction are available for the medium and operating conditions.
How do I select a lining material?
Provide the medium, concentration, temperature, pressure, any vacuum condition, particle content, valve function, size, connection standard, and operating mode. The final selection should be checked against the specific product design.
Can lined valves handle abrasive media?
Not automatically. Particles and abrasion can affect lining life and valve performance. Evaluate the medium, solids content, flow conditions, and valve design before selecting a lined valve.
Can lined valves be used under vacuum?
Vacuum capability depends on the lining material, wall support, valve construction, and operating conditions. Confirm it using the data for the selected valve.
What information is required for a quotation or selection review?
Please provide the process medium and concentration, temperature and pressure, valve size and connection, required function, preferred operating mode, lining preference, and any required inspection or documentation.
