Wafer Butterfly Valves Manufacturers
VALVE Categories
Wafer butterfly valve means that the butterfly valve body has no flange, and the flanges on both sides of the pipeline clamp the butterfly valve to fix it.

Wafer Butterfly Valve Construction
A wafer butterfly valve has a body designed to fit between compatible pipeline flanges using the specified bolting arrangement. The valve disc rotates around a stem to open or close the flow passage. When open, the disc remains inside the flow path, and the resulting pressure loss depends on the actual disc shape, valve size, opening angle and operating flow.
Wafer describes the body connection rather than a single disc or seat design. Centerline resilient-seated, double-eccentric high-performance and triple-offset metal-seated butterfly valves have different sealing geometries and service capabilities. These designs must not be treated as interchangeable simply because they share a between-flange connection.
Seat and Body Options
Resilient-seated butterfly valves commonly use an elastomeric seat selected for the applicable fluid, pressure and temperature. Fluoropolymer-lined designs use a chemically resistant barrier where the selected lining and wetted components suit the medium. Metal-seated designs employ a different sealing arrangement and may be selected for higher-temperature or demanding pressure conditions when the exact model is appropriately rated.
PTFE, FEP and PFA are distinct fluoropolymers. EPDM, NBR and other elastomers also have different compatibility and temperature limits. The selected body, disc, stem, seat and sealing materials must be checked as an assembly.
Manual, Pneumatic and Electric Operation
Wafer butterfly valves may be operated by a lever, worm gearbox, pneumatic actuator or electric actuator when the specific model supports that mounting arrangement. Actuator output must satisfy the valve torque requirement under the maximum specified differential pressure. For automated installations, confirm operating time, control signals, required fail action and position feedback.

| Drive arrangement | Manual or powered actuator with suitable torque and mounting |
| Installation | Flow direction, disc clearance, pipe alignment and service access |
Installation Considerations
Before installation, confirm that the disc can rotate without interference from the mating flanges or pipe bore. The required valve position during installation depends on the seat and disc design and must follow the supplied instructions. Tighten fasteners evenly using the specified arrangement, and avoid imposing pipe misalignment or external loads on the valve.
Not every wafer butterfly valve must be installed horizontally. Permitted stem orientation, flow direction and installation position depend on the selected construction and service. Do not assume that a conventional butterfly valve can pass a pipeline pig, provide zero leakage under every condition or operate with every corrosive medium.
Compare butterfly valves, pneumatic butterfly valves and electric butterfly valves for different installation and operating arrangements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this wafer butterfly valve fit my existing pipe flanges? Confirm the companion flange standard, drilling, facing and fastener arrangement for the selected valve. Also check that the disc can rotate without interference from the mating flanges or pipe bore. A wafer connection description alone does not establish compatibility with every flange.
Which seat or lining should I choose for my process medium? Check the actual medium, pressure and temperature against the selected seat or lining and the complete wetted material arrangement. EPDM, NBR, PTFE, FEP and PFA have different properties and limits. Confirm the body, disc, stem and sealing materials as an assembly rather than choosing by material name alone.
Can this wafer butterfly valve be used for flow control? Some designs can, but the selected valve must be sized and rated for the required control range, differential pressure, flow behavior and operating frequency. Confirm the disc and seat construction and the actuator torque and control requirements for the actual service.
